ComNet Europe of Leeds in the United Kingdom, a leading manufacturer of fibre optic transmission and networking equipment, has expanded its ValueLine by introducing a cost-effective 26-port modular Gigabit Ethernet switch for commercial security applications. The CWGE2FE24MODMS is another modular managed Ethernet switch that provides a high port count with great flexibility in copper and fibre optic media type. The all-new CWGE2FE24MODMS is essentially a user-configurable chassis that accommodates three 8-port 100FX or 100TX modules to be accommodated. It features two 1000FX or TX uplink ports for connecting to the network core. The modules are available with either eight electrical ports that support 10/100TX transmission, or eight user-selectable SFP ports that support 100FX transmission. This cost-effective solution is designed for operation in environments typical encountered in commercial security.

According to Steve Clarke, ComNet Europe Managing Director, "There was a definite need in the market for a feature-rich, user-configurable, high-density managed Ethernet switch for use in areas where there were multiple network devices and network traffic needed management."

"The CWGE2FE24MODMS offers a high degree of flexibility and many very significant features. The CWGE2FE24MODMS is feature-rich, offering benefits such as IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) snooping, Spanning Tree (STP) and Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), Port-Based VLAN Tagging, Quality of Service (QoS) and MAC Address Filtering," said Clarke.

"A major exclusive feature of the CWGE2FE24MODMS is X-Ring. X-Ring technology provides a faster redundant recovery than Spanning Tree topology. The action is similar to STP or RSTP. X-Ring provides a redundant network path in the case of a failure on the network. But we truly believe the appeal for this switch lies with the many options available to the user when configuring this product. There are many port configuration options available, and this switch will satisfy virtually any application. ComNet is very cognisant as to the cost pressures today's system integrator faces. That is why the CWGE2FE24MODMS is aggressively priced and part of ComNet's ValueLine," Clarke concluded.

"With the introduction of the ValueLine CWGE2FE24MODMS we are adding to a very complete solution that achieves our goal of giving our customers more choices when designing the transmission portion of their application," said Frank (Skip) Haight, ComNet VP of Marketing. "From the beginning ComNet has been known for providing some of the most durable products for use in the toughest environments imaginable. But there are applications where that durability in extreme environments might be excessive. The ComNet ValueLine is a great cost-effective alternative," Haight continued.

ComNet offers an extensive line of fibre optic video and data transmission equipment as well as a line of Ethernet Network equipment that is uniquely toughened to meet the needs of the Security and Intelligent Transportation System market.
