Cooper Security’s Stewart Taylor wins Chairman’s Award for contribution to standards by the British Security Industry Association

Taylor has been chairman of the security equipment manufacturers section technical committee since February 2004

Eaton’s Cooper Security business is pleased to announce that Stewart Taylor has been awarded the Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Standards by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). Now in its 15th year, the 2013 awards ceremony honored industry professionals, including Taylor, on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the BSIA’s exclusive annual lunch at the London Hilton.

“The BSIA is always keen to ensure that the efforts and talents of personnel who make invaluable contributions towards maintaining high standards in our industry are not overlooked,” said James Kelly, chief executive of the BSIA. “The awards give us the opportunity to recognize and reward individuals and teams that continue to exceed our expectations year upon year.”

Taylor, who is slated to retire at the end of the year, has made several contributions to the security industry. He has been the chairman of the Security Equipment Manufacturers Section (SEMS) Technical Committee (TC/1) since February 2004, and has worked tirelessly on raising industry-manufacturing standards.

“I’m honored to receive the Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Standards from the BSIA,” said Stewart Taylor, Technical Director, Eaton’s Cooper Security business. “I am particularly proud of the work we have done together in TC/1. It is very rewarding to be ending my career on such a high note.”

Taylor is also a member of the BSIA installer’s technical committee (SSSTC) and a member of a number of British Standards Institute (BSI) standards committees, including GW/1/1 (manufacturing standards) and GW/1/2 (Installed alarm system standards). In addition, he serves as a member of the European CENELEC WG11 (Wire Free alarms) standards committee, with a leading role in the recent revision of the EN50131-5-3 wire-free alarms standard. He is also a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) interoperability-working group.

Beyond his range of industry positions, Taylor has championed and lobbied for effective wire-free standards for many years. He was fully engaged with the BSIA in the Ofcom wire free Short Range Device (SRD) spectrum discussions.  He was also involved in lobbying for SRD testing at the Ofcom test center at Baldock, England, to study the potential impact of the new mobile communication system (4G – LTE) on alarm system SRD products. Taylor has also contributed to discussions between CENELEC TC/79 and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) TG 28 regarding a new standard for wire-free alarm systems.
