ACTi's Video Server, SED-2100R, and Transcoder, SED-3200, has enabled St. John Grande hospital in Krakow, Poland to create an IP based live video conferencing system.  The national event even involved the attendance of the current Polish prime minister, creating a much publicized event in Poland.  ACTi's partner, "Dipol" was in charge for the successful project deployment.  The new system allows centralised control and high flexibility in areas where remote conferencing was once impossible or restricted to voice only.

The video conferencing system consisted of 3 sets of ACTi's Video Server and Transcoders.  2 sets were used for live video transmission of a medical surgery, while the other set was used for a conference lecture.

The distance between the surgery room and the conference centre was considerable, while the ability to allow multiple viewers view live streaming video at high quality were the main challenges of this task.

ACTi was able to provide equipment and software to meet these requirements.  Two SED-2100R video servers were hooked up to two separate analog broadcast cameras in the surgery room, with the live video footage being transferred over the hospital's LAN network to the conference room.  Two SED-3200 Transcoders were placed in the conference room, decoding the MPEG4 stream from the network to allow projectors to display the remote video.

The other set of SED-2100R and SED-3200 were used in similar fashion, except for lecturing purposes.  The superior video quality and flexibility of remote previewing allowed the St. John's hospital to conduct both conferences successfully.

Why choose ACTi?  ACTi's MPEG-4 IP products provide D1 (720x576) resolution at 25 frames per second and utilize low bandwidth and storage size.  The ability to provide a transparent RS-485 tunnel within ACTi's video servers and Transcoders provides ease of integration of various analog PTZ cameras.
