I shot these photos of a room full of video surveillance cameras during my recent tour of Genetec's facilities in Montreal. And the photos don't even show them all. Definitely a lot of cameras, and they're just some of the ones Genetec uses to test and ensure integration with the company's software.

How does a company like Genetec, and all the other video management system companies for that matter, integrate all these security cameras into their systems? My visit to Genetec reinforced the ongoing challenge in the marketplace among supplier companies to keep systems running together smoothly. In the case of Genetec, there's a whole department of software engineers working on it constantly, facing a continuing flood of new cameras on the market and new software capabilities they need to integrate with. This picture helps to tell the story for Genetec, but the numbers are impressive, too. Genetec has 3,438 video devices integrated and works with 420 technology partners worldwide.

Imagine if someone walking through the halls of Genetec opened this door by mistake. How do they react? It serves as a reminder of the important and continuing work involved, by suppliers and integrators, too, to turn products into solutions to protect people, property and assets around the world.
